FORREST GUMP drag you under? If so, there is a movie out there that can replenish your energy and refresh your outlook. FORREST GUMP has a perspective of life that is passionate, and an execution that's magical. This is a tonic for the weary of heart and spirit, and a rare gem in summer's crown. For those who feel that being set adrift in a season of action movies is like wandering into a desert, the oasis lies ahead. BIG, which told the story of a young boy forced to grow up fast as a result of an ill-advised wish made at a carnival. In some ways, FORREST GUMP represents the antithesis of that earlier movie. In this case, the main character remains a child in heart and spirit, even as his body grows to maturity. Hanks is called upon yet again to play the innocent. Forrest Gump (Hanks), named after a civil war hero, grows up in Greenbow, Alabama, where his mother (Sally Field) runs a boarding house. Although Forrest is a little "slow" (his IQ is 75, 5 below the state's definition of "normal"), his mental impairment doesn't seem to bother him, his mother, or his best (and only) friend Jenny Curran (played as an adult by Robin Wright). In fact, the naivete that comes through a limited understanding of the world around him gives Forrest a unique--and positive--perspective on life. hero, a successful businessman, and something of a pop icon. Through it all, however, there is one defining element in his life: his love for Jenny. She is never far from his thoughts, no matter what he's doing or where he is. freshness, and emotional honesty. Though the movie does not seek to reduce every member of the audience to tears, it has moments whose rare power comes from their simplicity. Equally as important is laughter, and FORREST GUMP has moments of humor strewn throughout. that of Vietnam and those who were sent overseas to fight. Forrest, as might be expected, has a unique view on his time spent there: "We took long walks and were always looking for this guy named Charlie." In this observation can be found the essence of the title character's nature. people--George Wallace, Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, and John Lennon. While the mixture of real footage of these notables with new images featuring Hanks is not a flawless process, the result is nevertheless reasonably effective. Story-wise, the two don't share much, but both have a similar "feel." The characters presented by both films possess a quality and depth which quickly endears them to the audience. frequently recurring theme is an admonition not to give up on life. Why surrender when you don't know what lies ahead? By contrasting Forrest's life with the lives of those around him, and by showing how the passage of time brings solace to even the most embittered hearts, the movie underlines this point. impressive. The Alabama accent may seem a little awkward at first, but it doesn't take long for the acting to dwarf the twang. The role is never overplayed, and Hanks has no difficulty creating a totally human character that is free of guile and deceit, and barely able to comprehend a concept like evil. THE PLAYBOYS. Looking and seeming like a younger Jessica Lange, she is believable as the object of Forrest's undying affection. Her interaction with Hanks is one of the movie's more subtle pleasures. actor, Sinise is probably best known to film- goers for his portrayal of George in 1992's OF MICE AND MEN (which he also directed). In this movie, his Lieutenant Dan Taylor is multi- faceted and riveting. The passion and pain he brings to the middle portions of FORREST GUMP hold some of the weaker moments of the story together. Half the end credits seem to be music-related. Often, pop and rock songs can be useful in establishing a mood, but FORREST GUMP goes beyond that into the realm of overkill. There are sequences when the choice of music is inspired (the use of "Running on Empty" for Forrest's "long run" comes to mind), but the soundtrack could have used a little pruning. Ultimately, however, any gripes that I have about FORREST GUMP are minor. This is a marvelous motion picture--a mint julep on a hot summer's afternoon. Don't get me wrong--I still love SPEED, but FORREST GUMP is an atypical Hollywood change-of-pace that's more than worth anyone's two-plus hours in a darkened theater.- James Berardinelli
GUMP HOUSE - WOMAN'S BED ROOM The doctor leaves and closes the door. Forrest takes off Forrest : What's the matter, Momma?
“Life is like a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you’re gonna get” –Forrest Gump’s Mum many years ago, I have read the book Forest Gump. I thought it was very humorous and I didn’t know something other more deep in my mind. Until I watched the movie, I knew it will be sutra. All the American history is involved in this movie and most of them is related to Gump coincidentally. You can heard so many familiar songs in this movie. Such as San Francisco, California Dreaming and Blowing in the wind. Maybe you think Gump is foolish, but he is a just frank, honest, kind, and normal guy. He is not good at people skill. Because he does what he thinks is right and doesn’t do what he thinks is wrong. Gump is lucky, because he has Jenny.
Forrest Gump who is unfortunately to be born with a lower IQ and the muscle problem, usually, people always think this kind of person can't be successful in doing anything. But, instead, this unlucky man has achieved lots of incredible success, he is a football star, a war hero, and later a millionaire! Key Words: HOPE DESTINY LOVE
Inside Forrest’s heart, hope is equal to running and the box of chocolate─you never know what you’are gonna get. When the first time Jenny asked Forrest to run away and the first time Forrest freed himself from the bondage, hope had been growing up in his mind. And later, the death of his mother and the Jenny’s disappearance once again disappointed him.For searching his hope back,he began to run and the running lasted three years. At this momen,I think,he has already tooken running for his hope.Like his words,”I just felt like running.” And what is the Jenny’s hope?In fact, the beginning of the film has already told us—she prayed that she can turn to a bird, flying higher and higher. But at last ,she lost herself. I think this is a clever point in the film,— the hopes are good for our life or bad for our life. The answer to this question I still look for… Jenny,as a rebel, has been rebeling her ordinary living all the time—turning on the cover of <Play Boy> ,singing in the bar…She symbolises the rising generation in this American period. They rebeled this society and the destiny forced by tradition. But,this rebel tired in the end,and she choosed died calmly in Forrest’s arms. Forrest, who watches from outside, tolds us the film’s issue: “I don’t know if we each have a destiny,or if we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I think maybe it’s both.Maybe both is happening at the same time.I miss you,Jenny. If there’s anything you need,I won’t be far away. “ Maybe destiny is like that feather, which has no concrete direction ,and the ordinary experience tired us.However, any turning is controlled by themselves freely, there’s one thing you must do─do you dest. ”I’m not a smart man,but I know what love is.” Love is film’s eternal theme .We give our tears and laughter generously. The love in this film is a process which a man with low IQ speaks out “love”. I think that Forrest doesn’t only say to Jenny, but also say to his mother and Buba.Because the love realized by Forrest includes many things, not only heart. The death of his mother and many times Jenny’s disappearance let Forrest know what love is . In fact,no matter whether Jenny love Forrest, Forrest gets love and we get love from this film.
In the end,I think of a poem: Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special. Do not give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying. It is a fragile thread that binds us to each other. Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find. Do not dismiss your dreams. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.
